The story of the constellation tells of the beautiful Queen Cassiopeia, who was married to King Cefeus in the Greek Kingdom Jappa. Contrary to her husband, Queen Cassiopeia was very dominant and pretentious. One dag she offended Poseidon the god of the sea, who sent a sea monster that ravaged and attacked inhabitants. The people demanded that Princess Andromeda should be offered to the sea monster, and although she was devastated, she had to accept the demand of the people. Princess Andromeda was chained to a cliff by the coast, so that the sea monster could reach her at high tide, but coincidentally the King's son Prince Perseus passed by. He wanted to rescue the beautiful princess, but Andromeda said that she had to be sacrificed to free the country from the monster. Prince Perseus hurried off to the King and Queen, who promised them marriage if Perseus could free the country from the monster. Perseus ran back onto the beach, where he fought against the sea monster with his scimitar. The sword cuts had no effect, but when Perseus drew Medusa's head out of his sack, the sea monster stiffened and Perseus could now free his princess.
